Victoria’s Multicultural Strategy

The Multicultural Strategy will set the Government’s vision for engaging with multicultural and multifaith communities over the next four years.

About the strategy

In September 2025, Victoria’s Multicultural Review recommended that the government develop a new Multicultural Strategy.

This new four-year strategy will elevate multicultural communities’ strengths and needs. The review recognised this requires effort across government, so the strategy will include actions for departments, which they will be required to report on.

Strategy progress

The Department of Premier and Cabinet is developing the strategy. The department has been engaging with community and sector representatives, peak bodies and all government departments.

Consultations

The strategy will draw from hundreds of submissions provided by Victorians. This includes almost 160 submissions from multicultural and multifaith organisations and community members.

The department has held community consultations to hear more about community priorities across metro and regional areas.

What we heard

Communities told us they want the strategy to be:

  • for everyone, because multiculturalism is an integral part of Victoria
  • strength-based and empowering
  • visionary and ambitious, while also grounded in clear actions
  • whole-of-community and whole-of-government focused
  • diverse, acknowledging the many experiences of multicultural Victorians.

Timeline

Victoria’s Multicultural Strategy will be announced in mid-2026.
