Accelerated early childhood education program

Educators looking to take the next step in their career can apply for the new accelerated Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Deakin University.

This innovative degree program means 76 Victorian educators can upskill to become an early childhood teacher in 18 months, instead of three years, through Deakin’s trimester model of delivery.

Eligible participants will also receive extra support within early childhood services, including mentorship and time release for study.

Students who commence the program in March 2021 would receive their degree and enter the early childhood workforce as qualified teachers in June 2022.

Financial support on offer

Students in the program will receive financial support in the form of enhanced scholarships to support them during their 18 months of study.

This financial support will help to enable students who otherwise could not afford to study full time to do so and become qualified early childhood teachers sooner.

These packages will be valued at $30,000 and will provide assistance with course fees and study materials such as textbooks.

Who can apply

The program will be open to those:

  • with a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, or an equivalent qualification approved by ACECQA and
  • who are also currently employed by an early childhood service that delivers (or intends to deliver) a funded kindergarten program in Victoria.

Educators will be supported to continue to work while they learn, to become qualified early childhood teachers quicker, and enhance their career prospects sooner.

How to apply

Applications are now open, with courses starting from March 2021.

To apply, complete the application form available on the Deakin University website.
