Program description

The Cultural and Social Inclusion Bundle provides educators with resources to build and develop a sense of belonging and engagement with children and families who have diverse cultural backgrounds, and to include them in meaningful ways in the early childhood service.

It is a flexible, self-paced professional learning package consisting of online professional development in the form of 4 pre-recorded webinars, each as two half hour modules. Each webinar is supported by one of four related books.

The resources provide in-depth information, examples of pedagogy and practice, and reflective tasks for supporting children’s social and emotional learning and wellbeing, complementing the online professional development. The books are:

  1. Positive Relationships: Parents and Partners by Jennie Lindon and Liz Rouse 
  2. Multicultural Celebrations by Karen Hart and Kay Margetts 
  3. Faiths and their Festivals by Christine Howard and Kay Margetts
  4. English as an Additional Language in Practice by Alice Bevan and Bridie Raban.

Resources can be combined and used in different ways:

  • as part of in-house professional learning for all educators as a team
  • in small groups
  • individually
  • with families/carers.

Detailed cost

  • Individual subscription, for online professional learning and supporting resources: $595 (excluding GST)
  • Service subscription, for online professional learning and supporting resources: $1,100 (excluding GST)
  • Subscription for up to 10 services across a service provider for online professional learning and supporting resources: $7,950  (excluding GST)
  • Tailored program, for a service subscription to the online professional learning and supporting resources plus 4 teleconference 30-minute sessions with a facilitator: $5,100 (excluding GST)

Implementation considerations

  • Target population: early childhood educators are the primary audience. Resources are also suitable for use with families/carers.
  • Program/practice descriptions and details: the program can be fully online (course & e-books), or a combination of the online course & printed books. The resources in the bundle can be revisited to support understanding, learning and practice over time as needed. Participants are encouraged to reflect on and apply their learning through questions provided that stimulate reflective practice and case studies.
  • Staffing: the online professional development can be completed in 4 hours.
  • Supervision/coaching: a tailored program is available and includes four 30-minute teleconference sessions with a facilitator.
  • Tools and systems: a digital device, speakers and internet connection are required to access the online course and e-book.
