The Victorian Attorney-General consider, when recommending appointments to the magistracy, potential appointees’ knowledge, experience, skills and aptitude for hearing cases involving family violence, including their knowledge of relevant aspects of federal family law.

    The Magistrates Appointment Advisory Panel provides advice to the Attorney-General regarding possible appointments of magistrates.

    Since December 2016, the Panel’s selection report has included an assessment of the potential appointees’ knowledge, experience, skills and aptitude for hearing cases involving family violence.
