The Victorian Government update its guidelines on policy and procedures in using interpretative services to specifically deal with family violence—in particular, the risks of using perpetrators, children and other family members as interpreters, as well as using the same interpreter for both perpetrator and victim.
The Victorian Government’s language services guidelines have been revised and republished to address Recommendation 157. A new section, Interpreting in Critical Contexts, developed in consultation with family violence sector stakeholders, has been added to the ‘Using Interpreting Services’ guideline.
External stakeholders including service providers in the area of family violence were consulted to inform the revision and update of the current guidelines.
This recommendation is implemented.
