- Department of Premier and Cabinet
The Victorian Government, as a member of the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd, work with the other members of the authority to ensure that accreditation and testing processes and approval of translator and interpreter courses require an understanding of the nature and dynamics of family violence.
-
As part of our approach, the Department of Premier and Cabinet is working to determine the most practical and cost-effective way to build on existing training and professional development requirements in the translating and interpreting industry. This work is occurring with the Commonwealth and State and Territory governments, and the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
-
NAATI and all jurisdictions have acknowledged the importance of ensuring that accreditation and testing processes and approval of translator and interpreter courses require an understanding of the nature and dynamics of family violence.
A working group was established in February 2017 with the Victorian Government, Commonwealth, NAATI and other jurisdictions to progress this recommendation. An Action Plan to implement the recommendation has been endorsed by all jurisdictions and the NAATI Board.
- Implemented.
