  • language of learning
  • print knowledge
  • phonological awareness.

Training must be delivered by a Hanen-certified professional with either a speech pathology or early childhood education background.

Detailed cost

Costs for delivery of training by a Hanen-certified professional vary depending on the provider. Training can be delivered to a group of up to 20 educators.

Implementation considerations

Target population: educators.

Staffing: educators will be required to attend seven workshops (totalling about 15 hours) and participate in 3 one-hour videotaping and feedback sessions. Services should consider backfill costs associated with this item.

Factors to consider: having more than one staff member attend the workshop may help embed strategies at the service. The program must be delivered by a Hanen-certified early childhood educator, or a speech pathologist with current Hanen membership.

Training requirements: the training program consists of:

  • 7 interactive and engaging training sessions that address the 6 building blocks of literacy
  • 3 individual coaching, videotaping and feedback sessions in which participants practice using ABC and Beyond strategies with children in their classrooms
