Ms Janet Michelmore AO established the highly respected women's health service in Victoria known as Jean Hailes in 1992. Janet is the daughter of Dr Jean Hailes, a pioneer in women's health who began her first clinic in 1971 dedicated to the management of women's heath in mid-life and beyond. Jean Hailes is now Australia's leading source of evidence-based health information, and recognised as a best practice model of clinical service for women.

For over 20-years, Janet has worked tirelessly to grow Jean Hailes into an organisation characterised by its integrated model of healthcare provision through research, education and clinical practice, and a consistent and dedicated focus on preventive health action. An ongoing commitment to providing plain English information has led to unprecedented growth in reaching both women and health practitioners.

Janet is a champion of helping communities to help themselves, and of up-skilling women and building their capacity to become preventive health leaders in their own communities. She has positioned the research arm of Jean Hailes and built collaborative partnerships with other research organisations.

Described as providing 'unceasing high-level advocacy for improvements in women's health', Janet has sat on a number of Commonwealth and State government boards.

In 2001, Janet received an Officer of the Order of Australia for service to women, particularly through education campaigns to raise public awareness of women's health issues and services provided by the Jean Hailes Foundation.
