Lisa Fitzpatrick AO is a dedicated leader in the labour movement.

She was Victorian Branch Secretary of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) for 24 years.

Lisa’s greatest contribution to the nursing and midwifery professions and healthcare system was working with the state government to enshrine mandated safe nurse- and midwife-to-patient ratios in law in 2015.

She led negotiations for members’ salaries and terms and conditions in both the public and private sectors. She also initiated the Nursing and Midwifery Health Program of Victoria.

Under Lisa’s stewardship, the union’s membership more than tripled - from 32,000 to more than 111,000 in 24 years.

In the 2024 Australia Day Honours, Lisa was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for ‘distinguished service to the nursing and midwifery professions through leadership and advocacy roles’.
