I love the way that the ball bounces on the table and when the other person hits it as well especially when you’re working together with other people to form that rhythm. And I think its all about like the balance when you’re like playing, the rhythm of the ball like the movement and yeah, I find that really cool.
My name is Aanchal Sharma and I play table tennis.
I think being a role model is just guiding other people to where they need to be, just helping out, mentoring them. I think like leadership is really important and knowing that now I’m a role model for other young girls, for other people is just fascinating.
Over the past few years, I have seen that in media and in school there isn’t really a representation of both genders. What I’m trying to do in a sporting environment is just try to like have both teams. So I worked together with my Principal at my old school and I worked together for creating both teams for girls and boys cricket and netball. I’m trying to work on creating an environment in which everyone feels inclusive. Even if you’re not that great, even if you’re not that amazing, you feel like you can play.
This award means a lot to me, I feel honoured to have it. I just hope that I can encourage more people, more girls to participate in sport and hopefully continue to be a role model for them.
