Matt - Teach the Future

Matt 90

Matt: Morning. Hi, welcome to my classroom. Come on in.

This is a Unit 3/4 Business Management class, it’s in the VCE program. Mostly year 12 students in their last year of study.

In my previous role as a manager, I worked with a lot of staff members, and I loved the training element of that job, and I thought I could apply that to teaching.

I wanted to do something that gave me some purpose, where every day was a bit different, that still brought me challenges, but something that was rewarding.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many, many different teachers in my profession and they’ve all brought a wealth of wisdom and experience to their roles. These teachers all have the same purpose, to better the lives of our young generation. The advice I would give to someone thinking about going into teaching would be don’t expect to have it all worked out straight away. You’ll have some tough days, but the rewarding days will far outweigh those tough days.

At the end of the year, you might just get a note or an email that thanks you for the year of teaching. Those are the moments that stick with you, and it’ll remind you of why you went into teaching in the first place.

Absolutely proud to be a teacher. It’s a noble profession to have.
