Project spotlight: Brunswick East

[Brodie Fraser, Project Manager]

So we’ve got four buildings here – A, B, C and D.

A and D are one owners corporation, and B and C are another owners corporation.

So technically this is four buildings, two projects, but being ran as one project from the builder’s side of things.

When the cladding came off there were a lot of existing defects.

So, there’s rotten timber from water ingress, there was some mould.

On the parapet here behind me on the balustrade the structural design wasn’t up to scratch so they had to have some strengthening works done there, a bit of rectification as well.

So working through those issues and explaining to the owners corporation what the issue is, how much it’s going to cost, what program implications it’s going to have – that’s probably been one of the most difficult aspects of this job.

[Arvind Kunday, Owners Corporation Chairperson]

Even though there were delays, these were communicated and kept abreast, and people were being as honest as they possibly could be about how long it’s going to take. It wasn’t the answer that we wanted – but it’s the truth, so yeah, that part was good.

[Brodie Fraser, Project Manager]

There’s a bit of emotion around that conversation as well but we’ve got through it and we’re at the end of this job, and I think we’re leaving it on a good note with everyone.
