[Kara Krusche, Project Manager, 150 years of public education in Victoria]

My name is Kara Krusche. I'm the project manager of 150 years of public education in Victoria. So what that means is commemorating the past, celebrating the present and imagining the future of education in Victoria.

Over 150 years I have seen some pretty interesting changes in hairstyles

and fashions. In the 1970s there was actually quite a lot happening at that time in the way of the mullet, which I think we're going back to now. No mullet shaming, quite a fan myself but there were actually points in time where people were getting expelled or not being able to sit year 12 exams, and there's actually an ABC piece on that at the time.

We see great changes in penmanship. Well actually, terrible changes in penmanship over time and fantastic changes in names as well, so just trends in names. So, we had people like Frank and Edith back in the day and names like Tom are still very popular now. So you really get to see

trends over time.

I think the biggest theme that I've noticed working on this project is the passion for education the people that work in the system have and the individual contributions of people to education in this state. There are so many people who give decades of their life to this organisation and to schools, and it's been amazing to be able to reflect on their individual contributions through this year.
