Stephanie's story

Hi! Wait, do I say hi? [Laughter] Doing great so far!

I'm Stephanie, I studied international relations and I came into the Graduate program through the generalist stream.

Following graduating from my Masters of International Relations I wasn't sure what sort of career path I wanted to follow moving forward. I'd heard a bit about the graduate program from some of my friends at uni. I decided it would be a great opportunity to turn my attention to my more immediate community and so thought that I'd give it a go and apply.

I like to think that the generalist stream is essentially the Arts degree of the graduate year. It offers you a real smorgasbord of choices and experiences so it's perfect if you're unsure of what exactly you want to go into. Some of my favourite things I've worked on have been Forest and Environment policy – I really loved that because I felt like I was really contributing to something I was really passionate about.

What I've gotten out of the grad program is a real sense of stability, knowing that the position is going to extend beyond just simply the one year makes me feel like I can be more present within the role that I'm doing. I love knowing that I've got a sense of direction and that I can use this time to build more deep and meaningful connections with the people I'm going to be working with, hopefully for years to come.
