Professor Helen Herrman is Professor of Psychiatry at the Orygen Youth Health Research Centre and the Centre for Youth Mental Health at the University of Melbourne. She is also Director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Mental Health in Victoria.

Helen is an international expert in her field of mental health promotion and has tirelessly built long-term sustainable international and regional collaborations, which enhance community engagement and enable partnerships between mental health professionals, clients and families of those living with mental illness.

Helen served for several years as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) and has been involved in collaborative activities between WHO, VicHealth and the University of Melbourne in the field of mental health promotion.

Helen has received significant and ongoing recognition for her outstanding work. In 2007, she was nominated for the WHO Focal Point for Mental Health Promotion and in 2009 was awarded an International Distinguished Fellow at the American Psychiatric Association. In 2010, Helen received a Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) College Citation, which honours special service to the RANZCP and psychiatry.

In recognition of her unparalleled contributions across all fields of clinical and public health practice, Helen was awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council Practitioner Fellowship 2010-2014 to continue her work in public psychiatry.
