Professor Sherene Loi’s world-leading research spans the breadth from basic discovery science to translational medicine and clinical trials. Her research has provided evidence for the development of immune-based cancer therapies. Professor Loi’s achievements, originality and work in the field of science has been recognised around the world. Professor Loi first characterised in depth the immune cells in breast cancer.

Professor Loi’s research brought clinical trials to Australian women, and improved survival for women with advanced breast cancer. She changed treatment paradigms utilising cancer genetics and immunology across a range of tumour types.

In 2021, Professor Loi received a Prime Minister’s award for science as well as the Jian Zhou medal from the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
