Program description

The Reggio Emilia Australia Information Exchange (REAIE) Inclusive Community package is a series of 6 webinars that explores the ‘itineraries’ of human rights, subjectivities, democracy and participation. The aims of The Inclusive Community are for educators to uphold the image of the child as a citizen with rights, and to build educators’ capacity to enhance the learning outcomes of all children and engage with families in sustained shared conversations about the learning and development of the child. Webinars can be viewed autonomously on demand.

The structure of the webinars are as follows:

• Webinar 1 Contextualising ‘The Inclusive Community Package’ (45 minutes): This webinar contextualises the principles of Reggio Emilia and its alignment with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, and assists educators to use the package to its full potential
• Webinar 2 Navigating Human Rights (one hour): This webinar unpacks Loris Malaguzzi’s manifesto, Una Carta Per Tre Diritti (A Charter of Three Rights), which details his beliefs on the rights of children, parents and teachers
• Webinar 3 Navigating Subjectivity (one hour): This webinar discusses injustice through the values of otherness, bias and differences, and explores the practice of the ethics of an encounter
• Webinar 4 Navigating Democracy (one hour): This webinar explores democracy and democratic processes as a catalyst to engage in dialogue about pedagogical work
• Webinar 5 Navigating Participation (one hour): This webinar explores the potential for engaging families, allied professionals and community members for change in practices to ensure social justice perspectives
• Webinar 6 The Inclusive Community: Children with Special Rights: This webinar again explores the manifesto written by Loris Malaguzzi, Una Carta Per Tre Diritti (A Charter of Three Rights) in relation to children with special rights and their families.  It draws together the key ideas explored throughout the webinar series and invites participants to enact children's rights and participation across our community. This will include a short video that can be shared with families: Your child as a Citizen with Rights (specifically developed for families).

Detailed cost

• The Inclusive Community online program: $550 (excluding GST) per service for one year
• Individualised coaching with an REAIE consultant: $250 (excluding GST) per hour

Implementation considerations

• Target population: early childhood educators working with children from birth to 6 years of age interested in extending their practice in relation to community engagement and cultural and social inclusion. 
• Program/practice descriptions and details: the webinars are accompanied by a support pack of materials including a webinar guide that explores a series of critical reflection questions. Other resources provided include a REAIE notebook to be used as a critical reflection journal, a mapping document that aligns the VEYLDF with the 12 principles of the Reggio Emilia Educational Project, a copy of Indications (a book that identifies the identity and aims of the infant toddler centres and preschools in Reggio Emilia), and 2 copies of REAIE’s Challenge Journal to support ongoing reflective practice. 
• Staffing: services should consider the cost of backfill in determining the cost of accessing these webinars.
• Supervision/Coaching: individualised coaching is available for purchase. 
• Tools and systems: educators will need a device with access to internet connection to view the webinars.
