Who we are
The Department of Education’s Restorative Engagement and Support team (REST) was established to support former students who experienced child sexual abuse by an adult working in a Victorian government school.
What we do
Our team supports victim-survivors, their family members, loved ones, and supporters. We help with any request or question about the information on this website.
We are not counsellors or health practitioners. But we can help you to understand the options available to you and to listen to those who would like to report what happened to them when they were at school.
We can help you to:
- get your school records
- understand how to report the abuse to Victoria Police
- access funding for counselling with a private practitioner
- decide if an acknowledgement or apology from the department or school would be helpful for you
- understand possible pathways for redress or compensation
- connect with other relevant services if needed.
We can also listen to your experience and make sure the department keeps a record of what happened. This helps us understand how and why past failures occurred, and how it affected you or someone you know. Knowing what happened in the past, and understanding the impact, can help us do better now and in the future.
