Where does the information come from?
The school directory information is based on data extracted from a list of schools held by the Department of Education and the 1972 3-volume publication Vision and Realisation: A centenary history of state education in Victoria.
The oldest schools
In 2022, to celebrate 150 years of public education in Victoria, over 400 of the oldest schools in Victoria were researched and historical profile pages were created. These profiles include timelines and photos, including links to where the images and other records can be found. This research has been preserved and included in the school directory.
Hint: You can recognise these 400+ school profiles as their Page titles include the school number in brackets. For example, Aintree Primary School - Number 5575 is a standard profile, and Addington Primary School (No. 226) was created for the 150-year celebration and includes more details.
Did you know?
Victoria's oldest still operating school is Bacchus Marsh Primary School. It opened in 1850 and the original school house is still in use.
