On 21 June 2016, the Department of Premier and Cabinet established a new Family Violence and Service Delivery Reform unit to, amongst other things, ensure that Victoria meets its obligations under the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children and support the work of a number of governance entities. These include:
- Cabinet committees
- Victorian Secretaries Board Sub-committee on Family Violence Reform
- Social Services Taskforce
- Family Violence Steering Committee
- Industry Taskforce
- Victim Survivors' Advisory Council
- Expert Advisory Committee on Perpetrator Interventions
- Ministerial Taskforce on the Prevention of Family and Other Forms of Violence Against Women
- Interdepartmental Committee for Family Violence Reform
The 2017-18 State Budget allocated a $1.91 billion investment into family violence reform, which included $60 million for the establishment of Family Safety Victoria to lead on the delivery of some of the Government’s key family violence reform commitments.
In addition $17.5 million was allocated for central monitoring and reporting. As part of this investment, a dedicated Family Violence Branch has been established in the Department of Premier and Cabinet and will monitor and report from a whole of reform view, with advice provided to the Premier, the relevant Cabinet committee and the dedicated subcommittee of the Victorian Secretaries Board.
