Kait: Hi, welcome to my classroom, come on in.
I’m currently teaching VET Allied Health. It’s designed for students who are wanting to work in healthcare. So, before I went into teaching, I was a nurse and a midwife.
Teaching was inspiring to me, just because it was able to encompass everything that I really enjoy. I really like the intellectual element of the subject that I teach, but I also really love people and working with young people, in particular.
Coming from a nursing background, it’s one of the most human careers that you can possibly have, so I feel like that’s really helped me make connections with students.
I would say that one of the biggest myths is those who can’t do teach. There are so many talented people in this profession. They have chosen to be a teacher because they have skills that not everyone has.

I think one of the most rewarding things about being a teacher is the privilege and opportunity to make such a difference in someone’s life. Making sure that you can contribute to every single student – they are all important and they all have the opportunity for a good education.
