Program description

Emotionally Literate Classrooms is a professional development program for educators and parents/carers. The Emotionally Literate Classrooms program is based on the theoretical underpinnings of neuroscience education. It blends the collective specialties of neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, and education to improve teaching methods and curriculum by optimising the environment in the classroom (indoors & outdoors).

This program delivers content that helps educators see a strong image of the child, so that they can respect and nurture the child in their given setting. The understanding is that growth, learning and development are driven by an interaction between a person’s biology and the social environment. This helps educators to support individuals to recognise their feelings and learn favourable ways to respond in order to adapt to times of dysregulation.

It aims to give educators insight into:

  • the way the brain and body react to stress
  • regulate, relate & reason – supporting high emotions/meltdowns
  • strategies to be with children and hold space when they de-regulate
  • strategies for educators to stay grounded and be able to share safety
  • effective ways to regulate - sensory & nervous system experiences
  • mood boosters for success in everyday curriculums (for children of all ages).
