Employer screening tool - Portable Long Service Authority

This screening tool will help you evaluate if your business and workers are covered by the Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme.

The Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme ensures workers in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries can build up long service benefits based on service to the whole industry, rather than years with a single employer. The Portable Long Service Authority was created to administer the Scheme.

Business owners in these industries can assess if their workers are covered by the Scheme.

This screening tool will help you evaluate if your business and workers are covered by the Scheme. Registration in the Scheme is compulsory for all covered employers.

Benefits for employers registered with the Authority

Some of the benefits for employers may include:

  • being eligible to bid for tenders offered by government entities, community organisations, and an increasing number of private sector companies in Victoria.
  • reducing the number and rate of skilled workers leaving your business.
  • contribute to workers’ job satisfaction.
  • avoid enforcement action and significant financial or criminal penalties.

How to register

If you consider you are a covered employer, then go to the employer portal to register as an employer with the Scheme. If you still have questions regarding your registration, please contact the Authority and / or obtain independent legal advice.

Registration in the Scheme is compulsory for all covered employers and penalties apply if individuals or companies are found to have breached their obligations under the Long Service Portability Benefits Act 2018. Visit our compliance and enforcement page to find out more.

Do you know other businesses covered under the Scheme?
