Who can apply

Only a registered veterinarian operating out of a commercial clinic is eligible to apply for a Rehoming Wildlife Authorisation.

The Conservation Regulator reviews rehoming wildlife authorisation applications to ensure that wildlife is only accepted, held and re-homed by people with suitable experience and qualifications. The Conservation Regulator will make sure they have appropriate facilities, resources and procedures to support quarantine, veterinary care, good animal welfare and fair rehoming.

How to apply

All authorisation applications must include a wildlife management plan. A guide to preparing a rehoming wildlife management plan(opens in a new window) has been developed to assist you in your application.

The rehoming wildlife management plan must include:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience
  • How any employees or volunteers involved in the handling and care of wildlife will be trained and supervised
  • Which species you are equipped to accept
  • That you have appropriate experience and facilities to accept those species
  • Quarantine arrangements
  • Health screening and veterinary care
  • Wildlife receipt processes
  • Rehoming mechanisms
  • Support and care post adoption.
