Skills insights

Skills insights provide sector-specific and regional reports, as well as other valuable resources for industry, training providers and employers.

Sector-specific and regional reports developed by the former Office of the Victorian Skills Commissioner remain valuable resources for industry, training providers and employers.

Apprenticeship and Traineeship Taskforce Report

The Apprenticeship and Traineeship Taskforce examined opportunities and barriers to the uptake of apprenticeships and traineeships in Victoria.

  • The Taskforce comprised key government, education, industry, business and union representatives. It spoke with more than 120 people, including employers and individual apprentices and trainees.

Its report emphasises the pressing need to expand the apprenticeship and traineeship system to address skills shortages (exacerbated by our ageing workforce) and ensure that VET graduates are job-ready. Three key recommendations were made, to:

    • build a culture of co-investment by supporting employers who invest in apprenticeships and traineeships
    • renew the focus on quality by investing in training and assessment based on industry demand
    • elevate the status of apprenticeships and traineeships by promoting the benefits to employers, young people and the broader community.
