Clean-up support for storm damaged homes

If your home was damaged by the February 2024 Victorian storms and is not covered by insurance, clean-up support is available.

Removal of dangerous trees

You can register for hazardous tree removal if:

  • your home or rental property is in an eligible council area (see list below)
  • you live in the home, or you had tenants living there with a formal a rental agreement in place
  • you are uninsured or under-insured for damage caused by the February 2024 Victorian storms
  • hazardous trees on your property are the direct result of the February 2024 Victorian storms, and
  • those trees could fall, or have a branch fall, within 30 meters of your home or the main access to your home.

What happens after you register

A member of the team will call you to complete your registration and book in a site inspection.

A qualified contractor will visit your property to inspect the site to determine if the trees are hazardous. They will plan to undertake the work.

Trees will only be removed if they:

  • are the direct result of the February 2024 Victorian storms
  • could fall, or have a branch fall within, 30 meters of your home or your main access to your home, or
  • need to be removed so that the contractor can access the site and conduct work safely.

Trees that do not create a risk to your home or access to your home will not be removed.

If parts of your property are important to you, it is important that you let the contractor know early. They can then consider this in their planning. Due to safety on site and the scope of the program, they may not be able to accommodate all requests.

The contractor will submit their plan to us. They will meet you on site again to agree the scope of works. If you want to go ahead, you will need to agree to the scope of work in a timely manner, including making time to meet the contractor on site.

Demolition of storm-damaged homes

Who can register for demolition of damaged homes?

If your home was damaged beyond repair by the by the February 2024 Victorian storms and it is not covered by insurance, we can demolish it for free. This means that you can focus your efforts and resources on rebuilding.

You can register for demolition if:

  • your home or rental property is in an eligible council area (see list below)
  • your home or rental property was affected by the February 2024 Victorian storms
  • you are uninsured or under-insured for damage caused by the February 2024 Victorian storms, and
  • you live in the home, or you had tenants living there with a formal a rental agreement in place.

  • allow access to the site if needed
  • remove things like damaged trees that could make it unsafe for the contractor.

The program does not include partial demolition, or any rebuild or repair work.
