Building from strength: 10-Year Industry Plan for Family Violence Prevention and Response

Our 10-year industry plan outlines the long-term vision for the workforces that prevent and respond to family violence.

The success of our family violence reforms depends on the strength of the workforces that deliver them.

In recognition of the importance of the workforce, the Royal Commission into Family Violence recommended that the Government develop a 10-year industry plan.

Building from Strength: 10-year Industry Plan for Family Violence Prevention and Response outlines the Victorian Government's long-term vision and plan for the workforces that prevent and respond to family violence.

About the plan

The plan sets out how the Victorian Government will work with stakeholders to create a flexible and dynamic workforce. The strategy builds on 4 themes:

  1. A system that works together.
  2. Building prevention and response capability across the system.
  3. Strengthening the specialist family violence and primary prevention workforces.
  4. Workforce health and wellbeing.

While the plan focuses on the specialist family violence and primary prevention sectors, it includes actions for other workforces that intersect with family violence including:

  • community services
  • health
  • justice
  • education and training

Working with the Industry Taskforce

We established the Industry Taskforce in 2016 to guide the development of the industry plan.

The Industry Taskforce comprises representatives from a range of sectors including:

  • family violence and sexual assault services
  • primary prevention organisations
  • community services
  • justice, health and education and training sectors
  • peak bodies, professional associations, unions and education and training providers

We continue to work with the Industry Taskforce to implement the industry plan.

Implementation of the plan

Implementation of the plan will be supported by 3 rolling action plans. Each rolling action plan will outline priority actions and initiatives over a 3-year period. We will release the first Rolling Action Plan in 2019.
