The latest round of Local Skills Partnerships Program grant recipients have been announced, supporting the Victorian TAFE and training sector to collaborate with industry to identify challenges, think innovatively about solutions and pilot programs.
Projects delivered by this invitation-only program benefit the wider Victorian vocational education and training system, as well as different industries and communities, through scalability.
The Gordon Institute of TAFE received a $150,000 grant to help more people with a disability access and succeed in TAFE, and to build the capacity of trainers and industry to provide more inclusive and effective supports. The project will be piloted with automotive apprentices.
The Gordon will create digital resources to uplift employer capabilities, including how to employ inclusion best practice, apply adjustments and engage with people with diverse disability needs.
The Wodonga Institute of TAFE was granted $190,000 to partner with The Gordon to expand Transport and Logistics courses. The 2 TAFEs will collaborate and develop a set of guiding principles for a training delivery model based, in consultation with industry partners in the Greater Geelong and City of Wodonga regions.
Aboriginal-owned Kaiela Institute received $200,000 to develop a skills strategy for First Nations communities in partnership with industry stakeholders and training providers. This will address skills shortages in engineering and early childhood education in the Goulburn Murray region.
Victorian Skills Authority CEO Craig Robertson said “I’m thrilled we’re supporting 3 dynamic initiatives, which will each provide more accessible and inclusive training for Victorians. These organisations are collaborating with industry and will help students thrive in their training and careers.”
