The 3 key actions

We are taking a stronger role in professional learning and development through taking 3 key actions.

1. Professional Practice Support Categories

All professional support is categorised into Professional Practice Support Categories. This helps you navigate your professional learning journey.

The 3 categories are:

• Build – on-demand learning to build core skills, close knowledge gaps and strengthen practice
• Embed – in-service support to help teams put learning into practice and strengthen team culture and leadership
• Innovate – in-service support for experienced teachers and leaders to improve practice across a whole service.

These categories are based on research and evidence. They identify different types of support and create learning pathways for different career stages.

2. Expanded professional learning

Expanded professional learning is a core part of the approach.

We will develop a wide range of programs that are tailored to the needs of:

• educators
• teachers
• educational leaders
• service leaders.

This includes:

• high-quality online professional learning
• in-service coaching
• mentoring.

This learning includes subject content in:

• literacy
• numeracy
• executive functioning
• science, technology, engineering and mathematics
• physical and sensory development.

Programs will grow over time to address the 5 priority areas and respond to changing needs.

3. Early Childhood Hub

The Early Childhood Hub is the online portal for professional learning and supports. The hub is available to professionals working in kindergartens offering a funded program.

Here, you can find, access, complete and track professional learning in one place.

Existing support

The approach builds on existing support, including:

• School Readiness Funding
• Three-Year-Old Kindergarten Teaching Toolkit
• Victorian Educational Leadership Program.

These and newer supports work together as a more connected system of practice support.

How support will continue to grow

We will use feedback from early childhood professionals to identify the support the sector needs most.

This will help turn current and future research into practical support, tools and resources.

Better access to evidence, together with more consistent use of tools, will support the Best Start, Best Life reforms.
