Established in 2018, the Kindergarten Quality Improvement Program (KQIP) is a professional development initiative that provides intensive and targeted support to Victorian early childhood education and care services with identified quality improvement needs.
More than 650 unique funded kindergarten services have participated in KQIP since it commenced.
The support provided through KQIP is focused on, but not limited to, improving early childhood service quality in relation to:
- National Quality Standard Quality Area 1 - Educational Program and Practice.
- National Quality Standard Quality Area 7 - Governance and Leadership
A 2024 evaluation found that KQIP:
- is effective in lifting the quality of participating services
- both enables and strengthens leadership, culture, and a whole service approach, which lays the foundation for ongoing quality improvements
- supports staff retention and recruitment
- ensures, through its tiered support model, that appropriate levels of support are provided to each participating service.
