Hee Young Lim holds a Master of Social Work and brings over 30 years of expertise in community capacity-building, engagement, training, counselling, journalism, and broadcasting in both Australia and Korea.
Hee Young manages Settlement Services and Family Violence Community Engagement at the Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council. She serves as Chairperson of the Ballarat Refugee and Asylum Seekers Support Network. She is a Regional Advisory Council Member of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, and a Board Member of WRISC Family Violence Support.
What inspired you to apply?
My aspiration to remain a pivotal leader in multicultural communities, ensuring that regional populations receive equitable services free from marginalisation and discrimination, inspired me to apply.
This program enabled me to strengthen my leadership skills, so I can better support the wellbeing of multicultural communities in regional areas.
I value the opportunity to engage with fellow multicultural women leaders, share experiences, and foster collective learning to amplify our shared impact.
What has been the biggest take away message for you?
The biggest take-away for me was the power of authentic leadership—embracing my cultural identity while confidently engaging with systems and decision-making spaces.
The program highlighted the importance of building solidarity with other Women of Colour, and how collective leadership can drive structural change.
I had the opportunity to engage with international leadership models, perspectives and strategies shared during the program.
It broadened my worldview and allowed me to reflect on how multicultural leadership in Australia can align with global best practices, especially in advocating for equity and inclusion.
How has this program helped you pursue your career goals and aspirations?
The program has been instrumental in transforming my professional career path. It strengthened my strategic thinking, deepened my confidence as a regional multicultural leader, and provided tools to influence policy and community development.
As a result, I am now actively shaping inclusive programs within my organisation and community networks.
The facilitators’ dedication and expertise significantly enriched my learning experience. Engaging with fellow Women of Colour leaders provided a supportive environment to share professional journeys, overcome challenges, and articulate future aspirations.
This program is a pivotal catalyst for my career advancement and leadership development.
