Learn Local Industry Practice Networks

Experienced Learn Locals mentor peers to expand tailored industry field pre-accredited foundation skills training.

Industry Practice Networks (IPN) bring together Victorian Learn Local providers. Their goal is to improve how providers work with employers and ensure pre-accredited foundation skills training meets workforce needs. This training helps learners find and keep jobs.

The networks include industry specialists from Learn Local providers who mentor staff from other Learn Local providers. They support those who want to work with local employers to create customised pre-accredited programs that address workforce skills gaps.

The networks operate as communities of practice, sharing resources and experiences to benefit learners and employers.

The work of the successful pilot networks funded by the ACFE Board in 2023–2024 has been documented in a manual that is available in the Learn Local Secure Portal.

The manual provides guidance and advice on implementing the Learn Local industry practice network peer learning model and many assistive resources developed by the pilot networks.

The manual will make it easier for IPN membership to grow.

Industry Practice Networks aim to become a key part of the Learn Local sector. They focus on industries with growing numbers of entry-level jobs. Their goal is to improve adults’ foundation skills in line with business needs. They also aim to promote social inclusion in employment, economic productivity, and local community sustainability and growth.

Two Learn Local Industry Practice Networks exist:

  • Building, Civil construction and Landscaping IPN to support Victoria’s Big Build
  • Care and Support IPN to support the great number of jobs in the care economy

A third network is to be established in 2025 in the industry fields of retail, hospitality and warehousing.

Learn Locals can discover more about IPNs via the Learn Local Sector Portal.
