Docklands is one of Australia’s largest urban renewal projects, reconnecting central Melbourne with its historic waterfront. Development Victoria continues to oversee the development of Docklands, working with the Victorian Government, the City of Melbourne, private-sector partners and the community.
About Docklands
Docklands is located adjacent to Melbourne’s CBD and covers approximately 200 hectares, situated mostly on the banks of the Yarra River. The precinct includes around 7 kilometres of waterfront.
The precinct has transformed significantly since responsibility for its development was transferred to Development Victoria in the 1990s. Today, Docklands is a mixed-use precinct incorporating homes, major workplaces, hotels, retail, entertainment venues and parks. Around 70% of the precinct development is now complete.
Docklands is home to more than 17,500 residents and 73,000 workers. More than 10,000 apartments have been completed or are under construction, along with more than 1 million square metres of commercial office space. Since the 1990’s, the precinct has attracted more than $14.6 billion in private investment.
Development of Docklands is continuing, including further residential development and the future revitalisation of the waterfront.
