The Albion Quarter presents a transformational opportunity to revitalise employment uses, provide complementary residential uses and better integrate the area with the upgraded Albion Station. A new Albion Station will be built to become a modern and accessible station as part Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1: West Footscray to Albion Rail Upgrade.
We are leading the planning for Albion Quarter to capitalise on significant transport investment and opportunities to grow the Sunshine Precinct as the centre of Melbourne’s west.
The Albion Quarter identifies the area surrounding Albion Station extending to the four quarters either side of the railway station and north of Ballarat Road. This work will only focus on the Albion Quarter and will not include the established area west of Albion Station. It covers areas within the suburbs of Albion, Sunshine North and Sunshine.
We have released a draft Structure Plan and associated documents which will support the transition of Albion Quarter from the current mix of industrial-focused businesses to supporting Melbourne’s next generation of jobs, innovation and services. It will provide a space for new residential dwellings close to public transport and active transport connections. This follows on from the Albion Quarter Discussion Paper released in 2024.
