New shared path and greenery New station entry

To help guide change and investment in the area, the Department of Transport and Planning has prepared a Masterplan for the area around Sunshine Station.

The Masterplan provides the community, government and investors with confidence about future development opportunities for Sunshine, including how transport, housing, employment, and public space around the station might look into the future. It builds on the upgrades of the station being delivered through Melbourne Airport Rail (SRL Airport).

The Masterplan was informed by community and stakeholder engagement throughout August 2021 and April 2022, together with input from the Sunshine Precinct Community Reference Group.

The Masterplan aims to create a healthy and sustainable place which prioritises public transport, walking and cycling, while still providing for necessary vehicle trips.

It will help connect the existing community either side of the railway tracks, develop a wider network of green and community spaces, and encourage greater business investment around Sunshine and Albion to the north.

$143 million has been committed to deliver projects outlined in the Masterplan, including works at Station Place including:

  • A new bus interchange
  • A new station plaza and entrance
  • New shared user paths and open space
  • New pick up / drop off areas
  • Creation of a development site; and
  • Intersection upgrades around the bus interchange.
