Rail Loop will better connect people
The Victorian Budget 2020/21 provides $2.2 billion to get works underway, with project development, geotechnical and utility work to prepare us to deliver the train line that will reshape Victoria.
Linking every major railway line from the Frankston line to the Werribee line via the airport, the Suburban Rail Loop will create up to 20,000 jobs during construction and kick-start the careers of 2,000 apprentices, trainees and cadets.
The Suburban Rail Loop will better connect people to jobs, universities, healthcare and each other, transforming the way people travel around Melbourne.
It will ease demand on the existing transport network and shift more people out of their cars and off local roads. Building new stations and delivering cross-suburb travel connections will also trigger investment and economic activity in our middle suburbs.
New transport super hubs will be built at Clayton, Broadmeadows, and Sunshine to connect regional passengers to the Suburban Rail Loop.
The design and delivery of the project will be led by the Suburban Rail Loop Authority, which commenced work in September 2019.
