Hampstead Road temporary lane closure (August 2023)

The Victorian Government is building a new tram maintenance and stabling facility for Melbourne’s new next-generation G Class trams on part of the 61 – 71 Hampstead Road site in Maidstone.

What we’re doing

We’ll be closing a lane and footpath on the west side of Hampstead Road. The Wattle and Hampstead roads bus stop (northbound) will close and will reopen in 2025.

Where and when we’ll be working

We’ll be working on Hampstead Road, between Wattle and Williamson roads from Tuesday 5 September to Saturday 16 September. All works will occur during construction hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
  • Saturday, 7am to 1pm.

This work will be dependent on the weather and dates may change.

Changes to the way you travel

  • Drivers can expect reduced speed limits and temporary closure of the slow (left) lane on Hampstead Road
  • The Wattle and Hampstead roads bus stop, servicing routes 215, 406 and 408 will close until 2025. Alternative bus stops are available at Hampstead Road/Williamson Road or Emu Road/Hampstead Road. Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey. Please visit ptv.vic.gov.au for more information.
  • Pedestrians can expect temporary closures of the Hampstead Road footpath with detours in place. Please use pedestrian crossings at Williamson Road or between Keith and Richardson streets.

Please follow reduced speed limits, detour signage and the direction of traffic controllers for your safety. Temporary impacts are shown on the map.
