Safe Pedestrian Program

The Victorian Government, in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission, is investing $23 million to make pedestrians safer at locations and along routes with high pedestrian numbers and a high-risk of pedestrian crashes, including routes to schools.

Pedestrians are completely exposed to the full force of a crash, making them some of our most vulnerable road users.

The Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program will see the Department of Transport and Planning work alongside local councils to deliver safety improvements such as raised crossings, upgrades of school crossings, and speed cushions, to calm traffic and make our communities safer and more walkable.

Projects will be aligned with safe system(opens in a new window) design principles.

Projects are currently in the initial development phase and are expected to begin construction in late 2023.
