South Yarra Station Precinct Master Plan

South Yarra station is currently one of the busiest in metropolitan Melbourne during peak periods.

The Department of Transport and Planning is working with the local community to plan for the future of the station, and its surrounds, to support South Yarra to grow as a vibrant, innovative and creative business community.

We are developing a master plan to transform the South Yarra station precinct into a more accessible station.

The plan will identify medium to long-term improvement options for the area. Planning for the heritage character of the station, future developments and other transport projects being undertaken in the area including:

South Yarra Station Upgrade(opens in a new window), a $12.33 million investment, will help reduce overcrowding at the station and create more accessible space. The upgrade will deliver a wider station entrance and a fully accessible tram stop.

Stages one and two of this upgrade are now complete, with construction of the tram stop to take place in June 2021.

The Metro Tunnel(opens in a new window) will deliver more trains on the Sandringham and Frankston lines from 2025, when the tunnel is operational, and will reduce congestion at South Yarra station.

We are working in partnership with the City of Stonnington, stakeholders and the community throughout the various stages of the project.
