Gabrielle Wang is a Melbourne-based author and illustrator of more than 20 books for children and young adults and was the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2022-23.
As a child, Gabrielle loved reading books set in the real world, with characters able to travel to other fantastic dimensions, and this has inspired her writing and illustrations. She loved reading books filled with adventure excitement, secrets and magic.
Gabrielle believes it is important children can relate to characters and that characters reflect the diversity of our communities.
Gabrielle’s books have won numerous awards. Her most recent book is Zadie Ma and the Dog Who Chased the Moon, which was shortlisted for the 2023 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, the Queensland Literary Awards and is longlisted for the Danz Children’s Book Award.
