The history of Darraweit Guim Primary School
1866
Darraweit Guim opened in a building owned by the Wesleyan Church.
The first head teacher was Caleb Burchett.
1867
The school became a common school.
There were 30 students enrolled at the time.

A single room bluestone school was built.
1878
A three-room house was built close to the school.
1902
A monument on the grounds erected is a memorial to former student Thomas Mahoney.
He lost his life during the Boer War.
1906
The teacher's house was damaged in a flood.
1916

Notable students John Allan, who later became Premier of Victoria, attended this school.
1936
The teacher's house was moved due to regular flooding.
1955
The timber plantation was begun when 640 pines were planted.
1967
The school marked its 100th anniversary.
1970
The name of the school changed to Darraweit Guim Primary School in 1970.
2011
The school was flooded again.
2014
The school was impacted by two fires that started in Mickleham and Clarkefield.
The school wasn't damaged due to the efforts of firefighters.
2022
Darraweit Guim is still in operation.
The original bluestone building is used as a classroom and kitchen.
