The history of Kangaroo Hills State School

  • 1862

    Kangaroo Hills opened as a common school in 1862.

    The first head teacher was Miss North.

    The school was built on the slope of a hill. The schoolhouse was a single room weatherboard building. There was no house for the teacher.

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1914

    The school closed in 1914 for 2 years.

  • 1916

    Kangaroo Hills reopened again in 1916.

  • 1953

    Kangaroo Hills State School closed in 1953. The students were moved to Smeaton State School (No. 552).

    The schoolhouse was sold and moved elsewhere.
