The history of Alexandra Primary School

  • 1869

    A timber schoolhouse was built in 1869.

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

    The number of students going to the school was growing. The size of the schoolhouse was increased in 1874.

    The head teacher was Robert Higgins in 1875. He drowned in the Goulburn River while shooting ducks.

  • 1914

    The size of the school was increased again.

  • 1929

    A pine plantation was planted in 1929. The trees would be sold when fully grown to raise money for the school.

  • 1940s

    A new woodwork room was built. More rooms were added because the number of students was increasing. The schoolgrounds were landscaped.

  • 1962

    The pine plantation was extended and more trees were planted.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Alexandra Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Alexandra Primary School is still in operation.
