The history of Coomoora State School

  • 1866

    Coomoora was opened as a common school in 1866.

    The first head teacher was James U. Browne and there were 34 children enrolled.

    The children were mostly from saw-milling, flour-milling and gold-mining families near Daylesford.

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1945

    The school had closed in 1945 after 79 years.

    The last head teacher was Mathew Murphy.
