The history of Framlingham Primary School
1872
Framlingham opened as a common school.
The average attendance was 38.
James Edwards was the first head teacher. Edwards had also taught at Ellerslie Common School.
The school was located around 29 kms from Warrnambool.
There were 31 school-aged children in the district and 40 pre-school children.
1890s
There were 124 students enrolled at the school by the late 1890s.
This included 13 students from the Framlingham village settlement.
The total number of students declined after a local butter and cheese factory closed down.
1910s
Notable students at this time include
- William Brens, (1909) who would become a Lord Mayor of Melbourne.
- Paul McGinness (between 1904 and 1909) who went on to help establish the airline company, QANTAS in 1920.
1928
A timber plantation started.
1965
The timber plantation was replanted.
1993
The school closed.
