The history of Myrtle Creek State School

  • 1870s

Myrtle Creek opened as a common school in 1872.

The head teacher was J. Bardin.

The schoolhouse was built by the local community. Church services were held in the schoolhouse.

The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1880s

Because student numbers were low, the school became part-time. Myrtle Creek shared the teacher with Black Eagle State School (No. 1783) from 1881 until 1889. The teacher split their time between both schools. Later it shared the teacher with Metcalfe State School (No. 851).

  • 1961

Myrtle Creek State School closed in 1961 when there were 40 students enrolled.
