The history of Gordon Primary School

  • 1864

    Gordon opened as a common school in 1864.

  • 1873

    Gordon became a state school in 1873. The first head teacher was William H. Dicker.

    When the number of students at the school began to grow, a larger timber building with a shingle roof was built.

  • 1883

    A new brick schoolhouse was built in 1883. The number of students enrolled was now 500. The Mechanics Institute had to be used as an extra classroom.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Gordon Primary School in 1970.
