Explore and learn about Victoria's oldest public schools

In 1872 Victoria became the first Australian colony (and one of the first places in the world) to offer free, secular and compulsory education to its children. At the time, Victoria had 483 public schools, and 172 of these are still teaching today.

This map currently has 150 of our oldest schools for you to explore, and we will be adding many more throughout the year. So bookmark this page and keep coming back to learn about the history of Victoria's public education system.
