The history Allan's Forrest Primary School

  • 1871

     Allan's Forest opened.

    The first head teacher was Mr Bradhurst helped by his wife.

  • 1890s

    Mr Bradhurst was still a head teacher.

    He was supported by Martin White as pupil teacher.

  • 1900s

    Mr Bradhurst retired in 1903 after 32 years of service.

    In the final years at the school, Mr Bradhurst travelled daily from Warrnambool.

    His transport was a pony and jinker.

    A teacher named Tranter taught for a short time before the school closed.

    The school reopened in 1905 with Sara Brear as head teacher.

    She was succeeded by Miss Morris.

    The school was operating part-time by this time.

    The teacher would spend three days per week at Allan's Forest and 2 at Mepunga East State School (No. 2762).

    Full-time teaching began again under head teacher, Frank Hurry, in 1908.

  • 1915

     The school was renovated and the teacher's house was removed.

  • 1930

    The school was moved to a new site on the Great Ocean Road.

  • 1960

    A new building was brought from Yarpturk State School (No. 1011) to replace the original classroom.

  • 1994

    The school closed due to a merger with Allansford Primary School (No. 3) and Naringal Primary School (No. 1839).

    The new school was called Allansford and District Primary School.

    It continues to use the school number from Allansford Primary School (No. 3). This school is still in operation.
