The history of Deep Lead State School

  • 1859

    Deep Lead School opened in 1859. The first head teacher was Mr Johnson.

    A new brick schoolhouse had been built.

  • 1864

    The school became a common school in 1864.

  • 1868

    A fundraising event was held at the school to raise money for the school. There were 250 guests.

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1967

    Deep Lead State School was closed in 1967 because there were not enough students.
